
Koichi Nakasone combines mastery of kata and its applications with unparalleled experience and success in Okinawan full contact fighting (kumite). He has trained for many years with Seikichi Iha, 10th dan and U.S. Branch Chief for the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Shidokan Karate do Association. Nakasone Sensei holds the rank of 8th dan (Kyoshi, or master instructor) and Director in the Association. He is the master of the honbu (head) dojo of the Association in Naha, Okinawa.
Nakasone Sensei’s extensive kumite experience includes several titles as All Okinawa Full Contact Tournament Champion and All Okinawa Tameshi-Wari (breaking) Tournament Champion. He has toured all over the world teaching his kumite skills. One of Nakasone’s sayings summarizes the nature of Okinawa full contact kumite: “No damage, no point!”
Nakasone Sensei is also an experienced traditional weapons (kobudo) master. With Iha Sensei, he established the Ryukyu Kingdom Original Weapon Association and is the Chief Director of the Ryukyu Kingdom Suidi Original Weapon Association. (Before its annexation by Japan, Okinawa was known as the Ryukyu Kingdom.)
