Matsumura Sanchin
(from the Chinese Mountain Crane
System)
The late
grandmaster Hohan Soken, the founder of Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate/Kobudo,
taught Sanchin with open hands until the late 1950's. Goju Ryu's Sanchin
Kata once was performed more softly with open hands very similar to the way many
Uechi Ryu stylists practice Sanchin. Today in Shobayashi Shorin Ryu, we
practice a a closed fist version of Sanchin but originally the kata was
performed with open hands.
Hanshi Lindsey teaches Hakutsuru Karatejutsu and has founded his own Hakutsuru
or Whitecrane Style; which he calls Hakutsuru Ryu Matsumura Hakutsuru
Karatejutsu.
