Ms. Holmes from Toronto, Canada is involved in Arnis and Aikido. She has also done extensive training in Hap-ki-do, self defense courses and karate. Arnis, Kali, and Escrima are all words related to each other in the Filippino martial arts. Kali is the mother art of the bladed weapon and it is where both Arnis and Escrima came from. Arnis is a derivative of Kali as it diversifies and integrates the training of the blade with Impact Weapons (Bamboo Sticks and other assorted weapons) and hand to hand. Escrima is more the sport side of Arnis. It involves the full contact stick fighting as well as the anyo or kata. Ms. Holmes is the head instructor of two schools - Aikido Sandokai & Combat Science. She has been certified through to teach by training and learning from Grandmasters in the Philippines specializing in Impact & Edged Weapons, and is trained in all aspects of hand to hand combat. Certification under the Grandmasters included various styles of Arnis taught only in the Philippines. She is also an active International and National Competitor in WEKAF’s world full contact stick fighting championships. Additionally she is on the executive board of the AWMAI (Association of Women Martial Art Instructors). |
